Michigan City announces 2025 fall leaf pickup schedule

MICHIGAN CITY – According to an announcement from Michigan City, it’s time for residents to get their rakes ready for the 2025 leaf pickup.

The city’s Street Department says its annual fall leaf pickup program begins Monday, November 3rd, and will continue through mid-December.

Residents can set leaves out in paper compost or yard waste bags, or left in loose piles near the curb for pickup. The department reminds residents that plastic bags and toters won’t be accepted — and any piles that include branches, rocks, or other debris also won’t be collected.

Leaf piles should be placed close to the curb, but not near storm drains, utility boxes, or fire hydrants. There’s no pickup in alleys, and if a pile includes any unacceptable materials, crews will leave a notice asking homeowners to remove it.

Leaf collection will rotate through three areas of the city, each with two different pickup weeks.

Area One runs November 3-7, and again November 24-28.

Area Two will be collected November 10-14 and again December 1-5.

And Area Three will see pickup November 17-21 and again December 8 – 12.

The Street Department will take Veterans Day and Thanksgiving off, but crews may work Saturdays as needed to stay on schedule.
