According to an announcement from the Starke County Surveyor’s Office, they recently received a new drone and accessories, purchased through a grant.
This purchase marks a major step forward for the Surveyor’s Office in improving how local drainage projects are monitored and documented.
County officials tested the equipment for the first time at the Groshan Ditch project site, where crews recently completed a large debrushing effort and, at the time of the announcement, were dredging the ditch back to its original depth. This project focuses on an area that is a regulated tributary of the Robbins Ditch, and is reported to already have improved water flow and drainage capacity in the area.
The new drone will be used to assess drainage and erosion concerns, document progress for the Drainage Board, and help give taxpayers a clearer look at where their assessment dollars are going.
More updates and footage are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
