Community Services of Starke County’s radiothon is going on this week, which means that every day this week from 9am to 4pm, you’ll be able to hear those involved with Community Services speaking on all the ways they make a difference to Starke County and our surrounding areas.

Community Services offers local citizens helpful resources. Two of their many resources include Energy Assistance and Elderly Tax Assistance.
According to CSSC’s website, their Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is a federal program that serves income-eligible households who are subject to high energy costs or have electric/heating emergencies. They do note that while LIHEAP can provide benefits to help off-set the high cost of energy, it is not designed to pay all of a household’s energy costs. Applications for winter benefits began November 1st and will run through April 20th. CSSC also seeks other funding to help families in need with energy assistance.
Additionally, CSSC offers tax assistance for the elderly and low-income. If you or your spouse will be at least 65 years of age by December 31st, you may qualify for a refund on your utility sales tax, and if you need help with the SC-40 form, CSSC will help. Additionally, volunteers are available in February and March in order to assist senior citizens and low-income households with the completion of tax forms.
