The 2025 Henry F. Schricker Service Before Self awards dinner was this weekend, and the Starke County Chamber of Commerce announced Jimmie Howard as this year’s winner.
Howard serves at Community Services of Starke County, and the Starke County Chamber of Commerce stated that they were proud to recognize his extraordinary commitment to service and the well-being of our community.
The Chamber stated that for years, Jimmie has devoted himself to meeting the needs of others. Howard is the manager of the community food bank, and spends countless hours fathering donations, organizing resources, and making sure local families have access to food and essential supplies. The Chamber stated that Howard doesn’t ask for recognition and never hesitates to step in where he’s needed.
Additionally, Howard has also created a weekly community lunch program that takes place every Wednesday, meant to give those facing homelessness or hardship a warm meal and a sense of community connection. Attendance at these lunches has continually grown, and Howard is additionally working on plans to begin cooking and delivering meals directly to those unable to attend.
The Chamber states that Howard’s humility, kindness, and steady dedication embody the true meaning of Service Before Self. They state that the community is stronger, brighter, and more compassionate because of him.
