The Starke County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert citizens to a phone scam that is circulating in the area.
They announced on Wednesday that they had received reports of a man claiming to be a Sergeant Smith from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office notes that this it NOT a legitimate call.
They advise anyone who receives any calls like this to call their dispatch center at 574-772-3771 and choose option 2.
Additionally, if you are suspicious of a phone call, the best course of action is to hang up and call the official phone number of the agency itself to double-check if they are trying to reach you.
