KNOX – According to a release from Knox City Police Department, today, November 10th, Knox Police Officers Joe West and Matt Borkholder conducted a traffic stop at the BP Gas Station in Knox.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was operating while suspended prior.
During the stop, Officer West located an item in the driver’s door that appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb. As a precaution, the area surrounding the BP Gas Station was immediately evacuated, and the Porter County Bomb Squad was requested to respond to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Bomb Squad safely secured the device, determined not to be a bomb. The driver was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office for incarceration.
The release ended with Knox Police Department thanking the Knox Fire Department, the Porter County Bomb Squad, the Starke County Dispatchers, and the Starke County Sheriffs Department.
