The Starke County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for their first Citizens Police Academy, slated to take place in 2026.
The announcement states that the Sheriff’s Office will be choosing up to 20 current residents of Starke County; including residents, business owners, school leaders, and other individuals with a vested interest in the community.
The academy will provide students with an engaging, hands-on opportunity to tour Starke County facilities and meet employees serving in a variety of divisions. Students will meet with employees of Dispatch, Jail Operations, Patrol, Detectives, Drone Teams, K-9 Teams, and the SRT Team and learn how each division operates and continually works to serve the community effectively.
This interactive training will run Wednesdays from February 18th, 2026 through graduation on March 25th. Classes are scheduled to take place from 5-8pm Central Time.
Anyone interested in participating can find and return applications at the Starke County Justice Center, which is located at 5435 East State Road 8 in Knox. Interested citizens can also reach out to awilhelm@starke.in.gov.
