Knox Parks and Recreation Board minutes from December; and announcement of January 26 meeting

The Knox Parks and Recreation Board has announced an upcoming meeting this Monday, January 26th.

It has also shared the minutes from its December 22nd regular meeting.

During the December 22nd meeting, the Park Board members reviewed the 5-year park plan, including discussion about continuing to look into skate park and pickleball court upgrades. It is noted that several items in the park plan cannot be accomplished because of property not being obtained and grants not being made available.

Board members also mapped out where new garbage cans will be placed in Knox’s 3 parks, and determined that a few more trash cans will be necessary.

Discussion was held on park employees, including daily, weekly, and monthly duties, and that park employees will be responsible for the basic grooming of the baseball and softball fields, with the remainder of the responsibility going to the Activity Director and coaches.

During the December meeting, the Park Board voted unanimously to keep their meetings on the 4th Monday of each month, and to hold an executive session prior to the upcoming January 26th meeting.

On the topic of the January 26th meeting, it is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm Central Time and will be held at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox, with the aforementioned Executive Session beginning at 5pm and the regular park board meeting to begin at 5:30pm.

At the Monday meeting, Park Board members will conduct officer elections for President and Vice President. Under new business, the board will discuss netting for pickleball courts, as well as lights for both the pickleball and basketball courts. Board members will discuss places to get ideas for the skate park when the weather is permitting, and will also discuss renting concession stands again.

After a portion of the meeting for comments from the public and the board, the meeting will be adjourned.

The public is not invited to attend the Executive Session; however, the regular Park Board meeting at 5:30pm is open to the public.
