This afternoon, February 17th, it was announced that the Starke County Board of Commissioners have adopted two ordinances, both in regards to extending moratoriums on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Commercial Solar Energy Systems (CSES).
Both ordinances extend previously adopted moratoriums for BESS and CSES through July 25th of this year. The ordinances state that the time is needed in order to provide regulations related to BESS and CSES before any type of permits can be issued for these types of projects.
The ordinances are Ordinance Number 02 of 2026 and Ordinance Number 03 of 2026, and a full copy of each is available for viewing at the Starke County Planning and Building Department and at the Starke County Auditor’s Office.
