On Thursday, the town of Francesville shared an announcement with citizens in regards to documents with personal information.
The city urges its citizens to ensure that all documents containing personal information are either redacted or shredded before they are disposed of.
The announcement states that city officials are still dealing with individuals rummaging through trash cans.
The announcement notes that while trash cans located on the street are considered in a public area and it is not illegal to go through them, trash that is located on someone’s private property is off-limits and considered illegal to search through.
The city encourages citizens who witness individuals going through trash on private property that is not theirs to call 911 dispatch immediately.
