North Judson bulk trash pickup scheduled for May 14

The Town of North Judson announced this week that its bulk trash pickup will take place on Thursday, May 14th of this year.

The bulk pickup event is for homes that are located within the corporate limits of North Judson; for residential locations that pay for garbage on their water bills. This collection does not include commercial or apartment buildings, and no trash from small businesses operating out of a home will be accepted.

Items that will not be accepted for pickup include auto parts, engines, tires, and batteries; electronics, including televisions, computers, printers, and fax machines. No remodeling or construction material will be accepted, including lumber, plaster, drywall, paneling, siding, roofing, or any other building materials. No chemicals, pesticides, paints, solvents, or other household waste will be collected, nor will propane tanks, gas tanks, ashes, dead animals, or fencing. Other prohibited items include concrete, bricks, dirt, rocks, sod, or stumps; iron or steel, cast-iron bath tubs, and medical waste.

Additionally, no appliances that contain Freon will be accepted, including air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, and dehumidifiers, unless the appliance has a certification sticker that indicates the Freon has been removed by a certified technician.

Any carpet or rugs must be rolled and tied with tape or string into 4 feet sections, no wider than 2 feet in diameter, and no heavier than 50 pounds.

Mattresses, box springs, and furniture must be wrapped in plastic for curbside pickup, using mattress bags or plastic painting drop cloths that are sealed with duct tape. Queen size mattresses or smaller only, no sofa’s over 80″ and no hide-a-bed or sleeper sofas.

Any bags that are placed out for collection may not exceed 35 pounds and cans may not exceed 50 pounds.

No individual item over 5 feet in length, 3 feet wide, 3 feet high, or weighing over 100 pounds will be accepted.

Windows, glass, and mirrors must be less than 3’x4′ in size, and any broken glass should be placed in a box, taped shut, and clearly labeled “Broken Glass”.

Any gas grills must have the propane tank removed prior to disposal, and lawn mowers must be drained of oil and/or gas. Riding lawn mowers are not accepted.

Finally, all small items must be in bags or in cans for collection, with a note that loose piles will be left for the homeowners’ disposal.
