Starke County Environmental Management has announced a residential household hazardous waste collection.
The event will take place at the Recycle Center, located at 3835 East 250 North Suite B in Knox, on Saturday, May 9th from 8am to noon Central Time.
The flyer for the event states that Household Hazardous Waste are unwanted products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients that require special care upon disposal.
Those taking advantage of this event may discard up to 1 TV set for free, unlimited appliances, one computer monitor, cpus, keyboards, and printers.
No narcotics or controlled substances may be disposed of at this event, though it is noted that the County Sheriff’s office has drop off bins for those types of medications.
Hazardous waste that is acceptable for this event includes:
Oil / Oil filters
Batteries, rechargeable/lead – acid
Mercury / Thermometers / Thermostats
Pet spray and dip / Flea collars
Poisons
Pesticides / Herbicides / Fungicides / Insecticides
Chemicals / Ammonia
Oil-Based paints / solvents / thinners
Cleaners
Waste fuels / old gasoline / antifreeze
Fluorescent tubes / CFLs
Aerosols
Medications and sharps, but not narcotics or controlled substances
Pool supplies
Adhesives and glues / Unknowns
This event is for household waste only and does not include any commercial or industrial waste.
Latex paint is not accepted at this event as it is not hazardous waste. To discard latex paint, allow it to dry out and dispose of it through your regular waste hauler.
No tires, residential garbage, furniture, construction debris, or recyclables accepted during this event.
