A release from The Starke County Community Foundation (SCCF) announces that it is proud to support the Knox Middle School Committee of Excellence PTO in bringing an outdoor Play and Learn space to life for local students.
SCCF recently presented a $10,000 grant to the project, helping build momentum toward the group’s $50,000 fundraising goal. Thanks to strong community support, the campaign has already raised more than $40,000.
The planned space will serve nearly 500 students in grades 5 through 8 and will include a pavilion, picnic tables, swings, and play and fitness equipment. The area will be used for outdoor learning, recess, and community events such as the KMS Block Party and Trunk-or-Treat.
“The KMS Committee of Excellence PTO is doing wonderful things for local students and teachers with this project and many other initiatives,” said SCCF Director of Development Jacque Ryan. “I’m grateful that the Starke County Community Foundation could play a part in the collaborative effort to raise funds for this outdoor space at Knox Middle School! I hope others will join us in supporting this project prior to the upcoming deadline to ensure that the matching grant is received!”
The PTO must reach its full $50,000 goal by April 2 in order to unlock an additional $50,000 matching grant through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Creating Places program. Every dollar donated will be doubled, but only if the goal is met by the deadline.
If successful, construction is planned for summer 2026, creating a lasting space for students and the broader community.
