Starke County Plan Commission to review 3 resolutions March 11th

The Starke County Plan Commission has a public meeting scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, March 11th.

The meeting will begin at 5:30pm Central Time and will be held at the Starke County Annex 1 meeting room, located at 153 East Mound Street in Knox.

After opening items, consent agenda items, and any old business, the Plan Commission will discuss new business.

The first item under New Business is discussion on a resolution that will repeal the 2016 Permit Fee Schedule and adopt a new schedule of fees.

The Plan Commission will review a proposed increase in fees of roughly 5% across the board and hold discussion on the topic. If a consensus is reached, a Public Hearing will be scheduled to receive the public’s input on the resolution.

A second resolution that will be discussed at this meeting is a resolution that will establish procedures for residential permit review, plan examination, and inspections; specifically a review of the state-mandated “Private Provider” option, a 20/30/50 fee split, and the new “Owner Affidavit” requirement. If the board reaches a consensus, a public hearing will be scheduled on the resolution.

The final item under New Business includes the presentation of a draft ordinance amendment to the county code in regards to fencing regulations. Board members will review proposed regulations that explicitly define fencing materials that are approved and prohibited, and establish zoning-specific standards. If the board reaches a consensus on this item, notice will be published for a Public Hearing.

Following these three resolution discussions, the board will receive any staff reports, public comments, and comments from board members before adjourning the meeting.

The public is invited to attend this meeting.
