A press release from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office states: On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the Starke County Sheriff’s Office proudly held its first-ever Citizens Police Academy graduation.
The inaugural class was made up of a dedicated group of community members who remained engaged throughout the five-week program.
Participants were given a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the Sheriff’s Office. The program covered a wide range of topics, including dispatch operations, drone operations, the Strategic Response Team, investigations, jail operations, and patrol functions. Attendees also participated in ride-alongs, providing firsthand insight into the daily responsibilities of deputies.
In addition, participants visited the MAAC Center, where they took part in scenario-based training exercises conducted in realistic building structures. These scenarios simulated common calls for service, such as domestic disturbances, warrant checks, and burglaries. Several participants also experienced the VITRA Simulator, which offers interactive, scenario-based training involving situations such as responding to suicidal individuals, conducting traffic stops, and handling other calls deputies may encounter in the field.
Feedback from participants described the program as an “eye-opening experience,” with many expressing strong interest in seeing the academy continue in the future.
Sheriff Rosa emphasized the importance of community collaboration, stating that “partnership and teamwork are essential to ensuring Starke County remains a safe community.” He also noted that the commitment shown by participants who dedicated several hours each week to the program reflects a strong willingness within the community to work alongside law enforcement.
Sheriff Rosa expressed his appreciation for the class and for the positive feedback received about the agency’s personnel. He highlighted the dedication of dispatchers, deputies, jail officers, and support staff, who go above and beyond each day to serve the residents of Starke County.
