Voter Registration Ends April 6, Early In-Person Voting Begins April 7

A press release from the Starke County Clerk’s Office reminds citizens that the last day to update a voter’s registration for the May primary election is Monday, April 6 at the end of the business day or by midnight online.

Updates can be done when making changes to driver’s license information at the Indiana BMV, online at indianavoters.com, or at the county clerk’s office. In Starke County, visit the clerk’s office on the second floor of the Starke County Courthouse at 53 E. Washington Street in Knox.

Early in-person voting begins Tuesday, April 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT on the second floor of the Starke County Courthouse. The schedule will continue weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT until Friday, April 30 at the courthouse. Early in-person voting at the courthouse is also offered Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT and Monday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon CT.


Two other early in-person voting opportunities are offered. Voters may vote early at the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, and Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT. Voters may also vote early at the Koontz Lake Sewer District Building Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, and Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT.


Voters will need to present a valid government-issued ID to vote officials before a ballot is issued in person, such as an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, military ID, or U.S. passport. As of July 1, 2025, a document issued by an educational institution may NOT be used as “proof of identification” at the polls.


If a voter would like to vote by mail, call the Starke County Clerk’s Office at 574-772-9160 to request an application. Requests can also be made from a voter’s profile on indianavoters.com. Even if a voter has voted by mail in previous elections, a new request must be made for each election. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Thursday, April 23. Mail ballots must be returned by the time the polls close Tuesday, May 5.


Election Day is Tuesday, May 5 and the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT that day at the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department, James R. Hardesty Community Building in Hamlet, Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox, Koontz Lake Sewer District Building, North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department, Railroad Township/San Pierre Fire Department, or the Washington Township Community Building.
