The county will be hosting an Arbor Day community celebration this weekend and community members are invited to attend.
The celebration will take place Saturday, April 25th from 9am – 1pm Central Time at the Starke County forest, found at 10655 East Division Road in Knox.
A welcome and opening remarks will begin at 9am, with the ceremonial Liberty Tree planting scheduled to begin at 9:30am. The liberty tree planting is a long-standing tradition that dates back to the founding of our nation.
The event will feature multiple activities throughout the day, such as a silent auction for a variety of donated items from local businesses, educational booths, and local vendors and community displays. The forest itself also features self-guided nature trails.
From 11:30 – 12:30 there will be refreshments and a free community lunch for attendees, while supplies last.
There will also be several special surprises and announcements made during the event itself.
Closing remarks will be made at 12:30pm.
The event is free to attend, and is also a part of the America 250 celebrations going on nationwide this year.
Anyone with questions can reach out to Starke County Surveyor Gwen Rentz at 574-249-8519.
The community is welcome to attend this special Arbor Day event.
