Knox-Center Township Fire Department responds to structure fire in Knox

The Knox-Center Township Fire Department reports that it responded to a structure fire on Lake Street in Knox yesterday.

The announcement states that on April 14th, around 2:35pm Central Time, Knox-Center Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of west Lake Street in Knox for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, members found a 2-story residence with smoke coming from windows in the basement and first and second floors.

A fire hydrant around 150 feet from the structure was hooked to Engine 10’s hose and directed to the front of the house. Hamlet Fire and Starke County EMS also responded to the scene.

Firefighters forced entry into the building to check for possible victims and to locate the fire, which was found to be occurring in the floor system between the basement ceiling and first floor.

The report indicates that the fire was extinguished quickly and there were no victims located inside the house. It was later found that the house was under renovations and had no occupants when the fire started.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
