North Judson set to become Indiana’s first “Trail Town”

The town of North Judson has shared a proclamation declaring that it is now an official “Trail Town” along the American Discovery Trail.

North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe submitted an application for the designation earlier this winter, and the town was recently notified that its application had been approved by the American Discovery Trail Society’s Trail Town Committee.

This designation makes North Judson the fourth Trail Town in the United States, and the first in Indiana.

The American Discovery Trail Society uses its Trail Town program to recognize communities that support and promote the use of the nation’s longest non-motorized trail.

As part of the designation, the American Discovery Trail Society will install three large signs recognizing North Judson’s Trail Town status, placed both at Town Hall and at entry and exit points where the trail passes through the community.

Steve Lucas of the Prairie Trails Club shared his excitement for the new designation: “There’s a lot of local usage of trails but it is also helpful to the community in that it will bring in trekkers from far away places…medium away places and far away places, to North Judson, to use our services.”
