
An announcement from Dr. Ben Anderson, Superintendent of South Central Community Schools, shares about an incident that took place at the school during its Prom Grand March Friday evening.
The announcement states that during the event, an individual brought a firearm onto school grounds and into the gym. The announcement states that thanks the immediate action of a parent who alerted staff, the situation was quickly and safely addressed.
The superintendent shares that the school is grateful for the parent’s willingness to speak up, stating that it is a powerful reminder that if you see something, say something.
Law enforcement was able to respond immediately as they were already on hand for the event. Detective Deck with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office secured the weapon and, without incident, the individual was arrested and transported to the La Porte County Jail.
The announcement states that at no point were any students harmed, and at the time of the announcement all students were safe. The Superintendent ends the announcement by thanking law enforcement and the community for its swift response and cooperation in keeping students safe.
