Starke County held its dedication ceremony yesterday to celebrate both the nation’s 250th birthday and the unveiling of the county’s bison monument.
Community members and local leaders were present at the dedication, including State Senator Mike Bohacek. The ceremony took place on the county courthouse lawn in Knox at 8:30am Central Time on yesterday, Monday, April 20th. April 20th has now been designated as Starke County Day by the County Commissioners.

The statue area also features two benches, repurposed from the courthouse itself.
The dedication included a speech with a look into the history of the county, a bagpipe performance, cake for attendees, and items that will be incorporated into an upcoming indoor display, including the torch that was used during the 3200-mile Torch Relay during the original Bison-tennial celebrations in 2016.
The speech, delivered by county council member Dave Pearman, concluded with Pearman expressing gratitude to the businesses, organizations, and individuals who have been involved with the monument. Commissioner Mike VanDeMark also thanked those who helped with the project.
