Candidate filing has opened for 3 seats on the Knox Community School board that will be voted on in the November election this year.
Filing opened May 19th and will remain open through noon Central Time on Thursday, June 18th.
Candidates are encouraged to submit paperwork a few days in advance, in order to allow time for signature verification.
The three open seats represent:
- California Township
- Center Township
- Washington Township
To qualify to run for a board seat, candidates must live in the township for the seat they are running for. Candidates must also complete a CAN-34 petition form, gathering at least 10 signatures from registered voters who live within the boundaries of Knox Community School Corporation. Candidates must also fill out a CAN-12 economic interest form in reference to a candidate’s income.
Candidate packets can be found and should be returned to the Starke County Election Office, located inside the Starke County Courthouse, at 53 East Washington Street in Knox.
Under new Indiana laws, this year will be the first partisan school board election. This means that candidates have the option of appearing on the ballot as Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, or Undisclosed.
As this school board election cycle will not include a primary election, multiple candidates from the same party may appear on the ballot in November, and straight-party voting will not be available.
