There will be a mobile lung screening event in Knox this week.
The event will take place at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center, located at 55 East Lake Street in Knox. It will be this Wednesday, May 20th, from 9am to 3pm Central time.
This lung screening is hosted by Indiana University Health, and is meant for those who are between the ages of 50 and 77 and have a history of smoking for at least 20 years.
The announcement for the screening states that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indiana, and that most people don’t experience symptoms until the disease is advanced and treatment options are limited.
An appointment is recommended to attend; the mobile lung screening team can schedule appointments at 317-962-LUNG or 5864; or by e-mailing lungscreening@iuhealth.org.
The screening takes less than 10 minutes and is simple; no needles, no prep, and no change of clothing. It can detect cancer early when it is most treatable, and the screening is covered by most insurances including Medicare and Medicaid.
