The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office shared an announcement yesterday in regards to a scam that is circulating.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scam involves suspects calling or sending messages to citizens, claiming that a loved one is in jail and that immediate action is required.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office shared multiple photos of fraudulent messages that have been sent, and they are made to look like an itemized bill for a person’s stay in jail.

Something to note about the fake emails is that they do not list any contact information for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, nor do the messages have any kind of seal, signature, or heading that identifies it as a true piece of documentation from the sheriff’s office.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office recommends that anyone receiving phone calls or messages that ask for money and seem urgent to hang up and call the Sherriff’s office non-emergency line at 574-946-6655, option 2.

Citizens are reminded that scammers very frequently rely on a sense of urgency to cause people to act quickly without thinking or examining claims further.
