Starke County Coroner’s Office launches quilt and afghan initiative

The Starke County Coroner’s Office announced on Saturday that it is taking part in a unique initiative.

The “Compassionate Afghans and Quilts” program is designed to provide handmade quilts and afghans to families during a time of loss.

The handmade blankets will replace traditional sterile coverings and help provide families with a sense of comfort and compassion.

The Coroner’s office is reaching out to the community to help with this initiative. Those wishing to help can do so in three different ways:

Volunteer crafting: Crochet, knit, or sew and donate afghans and quilts

Donating: Contribute craft materials to support the program and its mission.

Spreading the word: Sharing the initiative with others helps ensure its success.

Those with questions can reach out to County Coroner April Wilhelm at awilhelm@starke.in.gov, or 574-806-1771.
