An announcement shared on Tuesday states that the Starke County Sheriff’s Office is officially transitioning the F.A.R.M. program into the Starke County G.R.O.V.E.
The announcement states: “By renaming this initiative, we are refining our focus. The G.R.O.V.E. now stands for Gaining Recovery through Orchard Vocation and Education. This transition represents a shift toward a more specialized, sustainable, and rehabilitative model for those in our care.”
The announcement broke down the acronym further:
- Gaining Recovery: Working in an orchard setting provides a therapeutic environment for individuals to find the clarity necessary for sucessful recovery.
- Orchard Vocation: The program is moving beyond general labor to specialized skills. Managing an orchard involves pruning, understanding soil health, and functions in seasonal cycles, all of which offer a vocation that can translate to stable, long-term employement.
- Education: A structured curriculum will be implemented, that teaches the science of agriculture and the logistics of production.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that while the core foundation of the program remains the same, the garden and wood shop will be changing.
The announcement ends by stating: “We look forward to the day when the literal fruits of this labor support local initiatives and the figurative fruits – transformed lives – contributed to a safer, stronger Starke County.
