Additional details on June 3 Starke County garage fire

Yesterday, WKVI reported preliminary information about a garage fire that took place in Starke County on June 3rd.

Knox Center-Township Fire Department Fire Chief Kenny Pfost shared additional details with WKVI in regards to the Wednesday evening incident.

Pfost stated: “We were dispatched for an attached garage fire in the East 5000 block of 100 North. Upon our arrival, we found that the garage was heavily involved and the fire was moving into the residence part. Our initial attack crew made a quick knock-down that kept it from extending into the actual living portion of the house. There was extensive fire damage to the garage; however the majority of the actual living part of the house was mainly smoke, water and heat damage.”

Pfost shared that there were 5 occupants home at the time of the fire, and that all of them made it out safely with no injuries reported during the incident.

Other responding agencies to the scene included Hamlet Fire Territory, Bass Lake California Township Fire Department, North Judson Wayne Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, and Starke County EMS.

Pfost stated that he contacted the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office, who sent an investigator to the scene. At this time, the fire is being ruled as accidental.
