North Judson, Indiana — A new public sculpture is coming to Norwayne Field, built from pieces of the region’s industrial past and inspired by the natural beauty of the local landscape.
A release from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation shares that the sculpture was commissioned by the Town of North Judson with support from the Starke County Community Foundation. The artwork offers a quiet space in the park for community members to reflect on where we have been and where we are going.
The sculpture is a labor of love, built using heavy steel infrastructure and salvaged railroad spikes. While the materials carry a brutal, linear weight— formed into monumental, interlocking tracks—the artist purposefully softened that industrial power with delicate, emerging metal marsh grasses. The result is a down-to-earth balance showing how nature gently but resiliently finds its way through human progress.
For the local artist, Angelique Milo, the piece is about honoring the everyday environment we often take for granted.
“Energy flows in the movement of trails and rails,” the artist shared. “It is the invisible current of our connection to nature, the world, and our legacy. The artwork breathes in the living earth of prairie, marsh, and fields of mint. Forever reaching for the sun of life and beyond.”
By combining rugged steel with hand-brazed copper and brass accents, the sculpture captures how human history and the natural world can coexist. It stands as a humble reminder of the quiet, persistent growth of our earth, always reaching upward.
Community members, neighbors, and families are warmly invited to gather for a casual uncovering ceremony to welcome this new piece to the neighborhood.
