STARKE COUNTY, IN — A press release from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office states: In a landmark effort to enhance public safety and strengthen investigative capabilities, the Knox Police Department, Hamlet Police Department, North Judson Police Department, and the Starke County Sheriff’s Office have entered into an interlocal agreement establishing MCU75 (Major Crimes Unit 75).
The release goes on to say: Named after Starke County’s county designation number, MCU75 represents a unified approach to investigating serious violent crimes throughout the county. The unit will be responsible for investigating major offenses, including homicide, child molestation, rape, aggravated battery, and other significant violent crimes. The creation of MCU75 reflects a shared commitment among Starke County law enforcement agencies to leverage collective resources, expertise, and partnerships to better serve all residents, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.
Through this collaborative model, MCU75 will ensure that major criminal investigations are conducted using consistent investigative standards and best practices across the county.
Equally important, the initiative is designed to ensure that every victim receives the highest level of professional service, support, and attention, regardless of where the crime occurs within Starke County.
“MCU75 represents a significant step forward in regional law enforcement cooperation,” said agency leaders. “By working together, we can maximize resources, strengthen investigative outcomes, and provide a more effective response to the most serious crimes impacting our communities.”
Oversight of the unit will be provided by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from each participating agency. The board meets on the second Tuesday of every month to review ongoing initiatives, share updates, strengthen interagency partnerships, and ensure strategic alignment among participating departments.
The formation of MCU75 underscores the dedication of Starke County law enforcement agencies to collaboration, accountability, and the pursuit of justice for victims and their families.
