The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Department issued a press release on Wednesday in regards to two wolf incidents that took place at the Washington Park Zoo, located in Michigan City.
The release, dated June 3rd, states: “A wolf passed away last night from natural causes. Following that loss, an incident occurred involving other wolves and members of the animal care staff. At this time, all involved are stable. The matter remains under review, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Zoo staff, emergency responders, veterinary personnel, and supporting agencies responded quickly and professionally to the incident.”
The release states that the city is grateful for the coordinated efforts to ensure the safety and care of everyone involved.
The zoo does remain open to the public, however the main wolf exhibit will remain closed while staff continue to monitor the animals and assess the situation.
