Kankakee Valley REMC shared an announcement this week regarding the Youth Power and Hope Awards.
The Youth Power and Hope Awards are made to recognize young community leaders. The awards are presented by Indiana Electric Cooperatives and recognize students in grades 5 through 8 who are making a difference in their communities.
Youth community leaders could be students who participate in activities such as volunteer work, school activities, or participating in service organizations such as 4-H, Scouts, or church groups.
Up to five winners will receive $500 each, as well as being honored at the Indiana Electric Cooperatives’ Annual Meeting in December. Winners will also be featured in an upcoming issue of Indiana Connection.
Past winners’ community projects have included raising money for Riley Hospital for Children and donating toys for its patients, collecting coats for the less fortunate, and providing police officers with stuffed animals to comfort children in crisis situations.
Applications are due by October 2nd, and parents of applicants must be a member of an Indiana electric cooperative. A link to the application can be found here: https://www.indianaec.org/programs/youth/youth-power-hope-award/
