LAPORTE COUNTY – Ducks Unlimited and its conservation partners are seeking volunteers from LaPorte County and across Northwest Indiana to help improve aquatic habitats during a field work event scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 2.
Volunteers will work alongside biologists, conservation professionals, and fellow outdoor enthusiasts to survey road-stream crossings, such as culverts and small bridges, that may prevent fish and other aquatic species from moving freely through Indiana’s waterways. The information collected will help identify opportunities to restore stream connectivity, improve aquatic habitat, and support healthier ecosystems.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors and wants to make a meaningful contribution to conservation,” said Jes Skillman, Regional GIS Manager with Ducks Unlimited. “Every stream crossing we document helps build a better understanding of where future restoration efforts can make the greatest impact for fish, wildlife, and local communities.”
No previous experience is required. Volunteers will receive training, work alongside experienced team members, and contribute to a statewide conservation effort that supports healthier rivers and streams throughout Indiana.
Individuals, families, college students, conservation groups, and anyone interested in natural resources are encouraged to participate.
