The Knox Parks and Recreation Board has shared meeting minutes from its June 18 meeting.
Board members reported at the meeting that a vendor has been contacted to provide a quote for lighting at the basketball and pickleball courts. The board also plans to fill cracks in the pickleball courts and contact a vendor about repairing or resurfacing the courts.
As part of its review of the department’s five-year plan, the board discussed potential Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, including improving accessibility between the splash pad and restrooms and to Shelter 1.
Board members also discussed several maintenance projects around the park. Fence sections for Field 1 still need to be put away, while fencing near Fields 2 and 3 may need to be replaced. Board member Nathan Bradley said he would look into replacing traffic barrier posts.
During board member comments, Bradley shared that an iced coffee vendor is interested in operating at Wythogan Park on weekends. He also discussed the removal of the spider-web climbing net and the possibility of replacing it with a climbing wall or relocating the ga-ga ball pit to that area.
Board member Lucy Rizzo reported a dead tree near Shelter 3 and said she would continue trying to contact a vendor regarding the pickleball courts.
Board President Gary Dulin noted a dip in the walking path that needs to be addressed and said the Starke County Sheriff’s Office may be able to assist with some projects around the parks.
Board member Ruth Bailey reported that several branches had fallen in Sandy Acres following recent storms.
