Those traveling in the La Porte area tomorrow morning should expect temporary road closures and traffic restrictions as athletes take part in the 46th annual La Porte Triathlon.
Hosted by Tris4Health, the race begins at 8am Central Time Saturday, July 11th, and is expected to finish by approximately 10:30am. Participants will complete a 500-yard swim in Stone Lake, followed by a 12.4-mile bicycle ride and a 5-kilometer run.
The race course includes streets surrounding Soldiers Memorial Park as well as Small Road from Garden Street to County Road 700 West.
To prepare for the event, the northern portion of the Stone Lake Beach House parking lot will be closed beginning today, and is expected to reopen around noon tomorrow after the bike staging area is removed. Beachgoers may instead use the horseshoe parking area near the beach house, the grass overflow lot or the parking lot across from the accessible watercraft launch.
The race course will be closed to through traffic beginning around 7:45am tomorrow morning. Police officers and course monitors will restrict access to the route, although residents who live along the course will be allowed to enter and exit during slower periods of the race at the discretion of course monitors.
Event organizers are also reminding motorists that cyclists will be traveling at high speeds along the course. Drivers who must access roads within the race area are urged to use extra caution when approaching intersections or pulling out of driveways.
