The Starke County Commissioners approved converting the intersection of County Roads 700 East and 200 North from a two-way stop to a four-way stop. The decision was made during their meeting Monday.
Starke County Highway officials told commissioners that the county has relied on the Purdue Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) to evaluate whether intersections require additional traffic controls.
Officials said LTAP had previously determined that a four-way stop was not warranted at the intersection. However, following a recent crash, another evaluation was requested and that the updated study concluded that changing the intersection to a four-way stop would improve safety.
The Highway Department requested permission from the commissioners to proceed with the change.
Commissioners discussed the need to install advance warning signs notifying motorists of the new traffic pattern before the four-way stop is implemented.
The commissioners approved the request.
