Starke County Plan Commission to meet tonight

The Starke County Plan Commission will hold a meeting this evening, Wednesday, July 8th. The meeting will begin at 5:30pm Central Time in the Annex 1 Meeting Room at 53 East Mound Street in Knox.

The meeting will include a public hearing, during which commission members will consider a proposed resolution that would repeal the county’s 2016 permit fee schedule and adopt a new schedule of fees for the Planning and Building Department. According to the agenda, the proposed changes are intended to address current departmental and administrative costs. Following public comment and board discussion, the commission could vote on whether to recommend approval of the updated fee schedule to the Starke County Commissioners.

Under old business, the commission will revisit a proposed amendment to the county’s contractor registration ordinance. The proposal would update the registration timeline and related information before the commission considers scheduling a public hearing on the amendment.

Commission members will also continue discussions on proposed regulations for data processing, high-density computer facilities and digital asset mining operations. According to the agenda, the board will review a draft ordinance and discuss whether to pursue a ban or regulations for those types of facilities. The commission is expected to provide staff with direction on how to proceed.

The meeting agenda also includes staff reports, public comment, board comments, and adjournment.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to comment during the meeting. Written statements may also be submitted up to four hours before the meeting and will be included in the official record.
