Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 drew major crowds in Knox

Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 Steam Engine stopped in Knox yesterday, and was met with an impressive turnout.

According to Union Pacific Railroad, more than 10,000 people were in attendance of its last whistle stop on the Norfolk Southern territory.

This stop was part of the steam engine’s first ever cross-country journey celebrating America’s 250th birthday. The tour included Fourth of July in Philadelphia as well as major display events in eight cities, and over 50 whistle-stops across 10 states like the one in Knox yesterday.

This trip marked the first time the engine, which is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, had ever stopped in Indiana, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania, making this an historic trip for the locomotive.

Hundreds of photos of the event have been shared by community members and those in attendance on WKVI’s Facebook page, WKVI K99.3FM.

The community thanks the multiple agencies, officials, and fellow community members who helped organize and oversee the event.
