Upcoming workshop in Starke County for those wishing to start a small business or purchase franchise

An announcement this week from the Starke County Economic Development Foundation shared details about an upcoming free workshop for those interested in starting a business or purchasing a franchise.

The “Business Start-up/Franchise” workshop will be held Thursday, August 27th, from 3:30pm to 5pm Central Time at the Starke County Economic Development Foundation, located at 15 South Main Street in Knox. The Economic Development Foundation and Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center are parterning together to host this workshop.

According to the organizers, the workshop is designed as a first step toward small business ownership. Participants will learn how to evaluate business ideas, begin developing a business plan, manage expectations and improve their chances of accessing capital. The workshop will also cover the advantages and disadvantages of franchise ownership.

Topics will include identifying personal objectives, skills and resources, evaluating market opportunities, start-up expenses, business planning, franchise disclosure documents, financing and funding, and steps to help make a business successful.

The workshop is free to attend, but advance registration is required. Organizers also say no-cost one-on-one business consulting is available following the workshop to help entrepreneurs with implementing strategic plans.
