Five Star Marketplace in Knox is collecting donations for the Starke County Community Services food pantry as part of a food drive leading up to its Kids Day event Saturday, September 12th.
Five collection bins have been placed at the front of the store, each representing one of five community volunteers. Shoppers can place non-perishable food donations in the bin of the person they want to support.
The volunteer who collects the most donated items will win the food drive’s pie-in-the-face challenge and will be awarded with a pie to the face.
The flyer for the event identifies participating volunteers as: Kankakee Valley Broadcasting General Manager Lenny Dessauer, community leader and volunteer Don Binkley, community leader and volunteer Dr. Thomas Browne, Community Services of Starke County President Michael Tolson, and community leader and volunteer Dennis Estok.
Five Star will also hold Kids Day September 12th from 10am to 2pm Central Time. The event will include carnival games, children’s activities, indoor and outdoor entertainment, a bounce house and other activities.
During the event, Five Star Marketplace will also offer a $10 store gift card for every $50 food pantry donation.
