Indiana’s Department of Transportation Northwest Division s hared tips for Indiana residents in the wake of powerful storms such as the ones that passed through yesterday.
INDOT recommends travelers to check 511in.org for road closures – on their website, select “unplanned traffic incidents” and “flooding”.
Drivers are urged to be extra alert for debris in the roadway.
Never drive over downed power lines, or through standing water or water that is covering the entire roadway.
Do not ignore road closure signs, but rather find a new route.
Finally, treat intersections where signals are not working as a 4-way stop sign.
INDOT crews reported they were responding to clear state routes as quickly as possible following yesterday’s storms. Issues can be reported at indot4u.com.
