Kankakee Valley REMC recently shared details about a scam call that has been making rounds to their members, and which has been reported in the past by other utility companies.
The caller in this case is claiming to be with the electric company and stating that members have a credit on their account. The caller then asks for a credit card number to “guarantee” or “reserve” the supposed credit.
Kankakee Valley REMC has stated outright that this is a scam. KV REMC will never call members and ask for a credit card number over the phone in order to issue an account credit.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a representative from KV REMC, or if you receive any suspicious call from someone claiming to be a company representative, the best practice is to hang up the phone and call the company back directly.
