La Porte County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigate fatal crash

A press release from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office states that last night (Wednesday, August 12) at 10:17 PM, deputies responded to the intersection of US 30 and State Road 39 reference a crash involving two commercial motor vehicles (CMV).

The initial on-scene investigation completed by Deputy Michael Sweet and assisting deputies determined the following:

The traffic control device at the intersection was not operating at the time of the crash.

A blue 2020 International semi-tractor, being operated by 28-year-old Vikramjit Singh of Selma, California, was pulling a 2016 VNTC trailer eastbound on US 30. The CMV had stopped at the intersection for the inoperative traffic control device.

A white 2017 Peterbilt semi-tractor, being operated by 32-year-old Johnny J. Rodriguez of Lakeland, Florida, was pulling a 2016 Font trailer eastbound on US 30. Rodriguez failed to slow down and crashed into the rear of the trailer that Singh’s CMV was pulling.

Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
