MISHAWAKA, Ind — Mishawaka is putting goats to work along the St. Joseph River. Twenty New Zealand mountain goats are spending the next month or so clearing overgrown brush, invasive weeds and other vegetation along the steep riverbank near the Logan Street Bridge.
The goats will be there around the clock, doing a job that has traditionally required tree crews. That work was expensive and difficult because of the steep terrain. The goats offer the city a cheaper and safer way to clear the riverbank.
