There will be a mobile lung screening event taking place in North Judson tomorrow.
The screenings are provided by Indiana University Health and will take place at the United Methodist Church in North Judson. The church is located at 210 Central Avenue in North Judson.
The event will take place from 9am to 3pm tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12th. An appointment is recommended and can be made by contacting the mobile lung screening team. Their phone number is 317.962.LUNG or 5864. They can also be reached by email address at lungscreening@iuhealth.org.
These lung screenings are fast, they take less than 10 minutes. There are no needles, no prep, and no change of clothes. The testing can help detect cancer early, when it is most treatable; and the flyer states that it is covered by most insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. Additionally, there are programs available for those without insurance.
This screening is for those who are between the ages of 50 and 77 and who have a history of smoking 20 pack years; which means that your average daily packs per day multiplied by the number of years spent smoking is 20 or higher.
The flyer states that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indiana, and that most people don’t experience symptoms until the disease is advanced and treatment options are limited.
