
According to information from the Starke County auditor, the county is accepting requests from citizens who are interested in serving on a county board or commission in 2027.
Those interested in a board appointment, as well as current members interested in retaining their positions, have been asked to submit their resume or request to the Starke County Auditor’s Office, addressed to the appropriate appointing board. Requests may be mailed to 53 East Mound Street in Knox or emailed to mhouston@starke.in.gov.
Appointments will be needed for the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission, Starke County Planning Commission, Board of Zoning, Health Board, Library Board, North Judson-Wayne Township Library Board, Aviation Board and Hospital Community Board.
Appointments will also be needed for the Alcoholic Beverage Board, City Planning Commission, Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals, Starke County Convention and Visitors Commission and Park Board.
The announcement indicates that some appointments are made by the Starke County Commissioners or County Council, while others are made by school boards and other local governing bodies.
The county’s list of boards indicates that several positions are currently vacant, including an appointment to the Planning Commission, two to the City Planning Commission, one to the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals and one position on the Starke County Convention and Visitors Commission.
The two City Planning Commission positions also have residency requirements, with appointees being required to live within the two-mile jurisdiction of Knox.
