Storm-damaged Starke County properties may qualify for reassessment

An announcement from the Starke County Assessor’s Office shares that property owners who experienced storm damage may wish to get a reassessment.

The announcement shares that properties that sustained damage in recent storms or flooding might qualify for a reassessment, so those who experienced damage are encouraged to reach out to the Starke County Assessor’s Office.

The announcement shares that when flooding or another disaster causes significant damage to a property, the property’s value may be lowered. According to the Starke County Assessor’s Office, a reassessment process can allow the property’s assessed value to be adjusted accordingly.

Property owners are encouraged to document storm damage by taking photos or videos. They should also keep paperwork and receipts from insurance claims, repair estimates, and any other records related to the damage.

The announcement encourages residents to reach out to the Assessor’s Office even if they are unsure whether their damage qualifies for reassessment.
