According to an announcement from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, the Winamac Community School Corporation received an anonymous, threatening e-mail this morning.
The announcement states that the same e-mail was distributed to approximately 100 schools in total, and it is not believed to be a credible threat. The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation stated in its own announcement that the email was distributed across Indiana, Florida, and South Carolina and is believed to be a hoax.
Regardless, there will be an increased presence of law enforcement at EPCSC today, Friday, September 25th.
The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation stated that the e-mail came in around 7:15am Eastern Time this morning.
EPCSC states that its School Resources Officer quickly contacted town, county, and Indiana state police officers regarding the e-mail. The corporation said it remains in contact with law enforcement and other school districts in northern Indiana regarding the validity of the e-mail.
The school states the safety of its students and staff is always its top priority, and that the situation has their full attention.
The announcement from the sheriff’s office states that the information shared is in the name of transparency so parents are aware, and that there is no reason for panic or a change in daily activities.
The Sheriff’s Office states that it will continue to provide updates with further information as it becomes available.
