The Starke County Historical Society will portray the stories of three Civil War veterans during an upcoming cemetery walk at Oak Park Cemetery in Knox.
Information shared from the Starke County Historical society states that more than 155 men from Starke County enlisted for the Civil War, and that following the end of the war in 1865, a wave of settlers moved into Starke County, including several Civil War veterans. Many of those veterans raised families and were eventually buried in Starke County.
During the “If Tombstones Could Talk” Cemetery Walk, reenactors will portray three Civil War veterans who are buried at Oak Park Cemetery.
The guided tours will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 2pm and 3pm Central Time, and will be at Oak Park Cemetery. The entrance to Oak Park Cemetery is on South Roosevelt Road in Knox. Parking will be available in the grass lot on the west side of the cemetery.
Organizers describe the tour as a moderate walk and note that it is not handicapped-accessible.
The event is sponsored by the Starke County Historical Society.
