La Porte County residents who were affected by the August 11th storms will have two opportunities this week to receive in-person help applying for FEMA assistance.
Representatives from FEMA and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will be available to help residents apply for assistance with uninsured or underinsured losses caused by the storms.
Assistance will be available tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd from 9am to 3pm Central Time at Krueger Memorial Hall, located at 801 Liberty Trail in Michigan City.
Representatives will also be available this Friday, September 4th from 10am to 4pm Central Time at the La Porte County Fairgrounds Community Building, located at 2581 State Road 2 in La Porte.
Residents can also apply online through FEMA at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 between 7am and 10pm.
Those with homeowners, renters or flood insurance should file an insurance claim before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot provide assistance for losses already covered by insurance, but residents whose insurance does not cover all of their disaster-related expenses may still be eligible for federal assistance.
Applicants should have their contact information, Social Security number, a general list of damages and losses, annual household income and banking information if they choose direct deposit. Those with insurance should also have their policy number or the name of their insurance agent or company available.
