The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory that includes Starke, Pulaski and La Porte counties through Wednesday evening, as hot and humid conditions continue across the area.
The advisory remains in effect until 7pm Central Time Wednesday in Starke and La Porte counties, 8pm Eastern Time for Pulaski County.
The National Weather Service says heat index values around 100 degrees are expected through Wednesday. Hot temperatures combined with high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, with little relief expected overnight.
Starke County Emergency Management says dangerous heat and humidity could continue into Thursday and Friday, particularly in areas south of U.S. Highway 30. The National Weather Service says the Heat Advisory may need to be extended in a future forecast update.
There is also a Marginal Risk, or level one (out of 5), for severe thunderstorms Wednesday. An announcement from Starke County Emergency Management says that isolated damaging winds of up to 60 miles per hour and isolated hail are the primary threats, although confidence in severe weather remains low.
The National Weather Service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas, avoid spending extended periods in the sun and check on relatives and neighbors during the heat.
